Willington Public Schools Facilities Study
Friar Associates, Inc. was engaged by the Willington Board of Education to prepare an Architectural Study of our two schools; Center School serving students in PK-4 and Hall Memorial serving students in grades 5-8. This Study includes both the development of a series of facility options and a facility condition assessment and code review, sometimes called capital improvement. This study will enable the Board of Education and the community to plan strategically and through consensus reach the best solution for the future of schools in Willington.

The Willington Board of Education had
a facilities study completed by Friar Architecture in 2017. The comprehensive survey of our two schools,
Center School (built in 1952) and Hall School (built in 1922), resulted in the
identification of the following options: repair our schools, renovate our
schools to like new condition, or build new.
The purpose of this survey is to solicit feedback regarding how the
Board should address our aging facilities and the options identified in the
facilities study.

This study includes both the development of a series of facility options and a facility condition assessment and code review. Each Community Engagement event will include the same presentation content including information from the facility options identified by Friar Associates and the current capital improvement projects. An outline of the Board of Education’s process for reviewing data connected to the facilities study and methods for community engagement will also be reviewed. If you are unable to attend one of the sessions above, please share your questions and feedback with the Superintendent. We will be establishing an online method of communication for community members to share their thoughts, feelings, and questions regarding the facility options. During each Community Engagement we will also have several feedback boards for attendees to post questions and/or feedback. Questions will be answered online and in future meetings.
The goal of the review of the facilities study is to determine if the Board of Education should pursue building a new school, renovate one of the schools to allow all PreK-8 students to be housed in one building, or gradually improve each of our schools via the capital improvement process. At this point, the Board has not made any decisions and is still gathering information and public input.
It is our goal, through consensus, to reach the best solution for the future of our schools and the needs of our Willington students, families, and community members. Copies of the facilities study can be accessed by clicking here and logging into the Willington account using the following credentials: Username: [email protected] Password: 1234. Over the next several months the Board will attempt to identify district facility priorities through these community engagement events. We welcome your feedback, questions, and participation.
